2023 Fall Harambee & Online Auction to Benefit the Jirani Project

Let's "all pull together" for the Jirani Project

Harambee means “Let’s all pull together”  in Kiswahili.  A Kenyan tradition, a Harambee encourages generously placing others before self as a group to “all pull together” to assist anyone in need, regardless of class, ethnic group, gender, or religion.

The Jirani Project is a grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated to the education and support of Kenyan children living in difficult circumstances. Run entirely by volunteers in the United States and one full-time staff member in Kenya, the Jirani Project provides these children with the support needed for shelter, food, school tuition, clothing, and basic medical care, in addition to covering all costs related to children’s education.

Join us on October 24, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for a fundraising event for The Jirani Project!

The event will consist of a Kenyan market and East African food.

Collaborative Effort Brings an Offline Digital Library to The Jirani Project!

The Jirani Project has launched an exciting new collaborative project with Engineering students at Arizona State University – an offline digital library in our new office in Lumakanda, Western Kenya!

Undergraduate students in the Engineering Projects in Community Services (EPICS) worked for the past year to design a durable, offline device to store many volumes for use by our Jirani children and the larger community.

Through funding from Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Madison, Wisconsin, in their Giftaway program, we were able to purchase 8 new tablets that Mark Okello and friends of JP brought to Kenya for use in the library.  Photos show children using the digital library in its early weeks.

Who We Serve

We focus on serving some of the most vulnerable children in Kenya – orphans, homeless and refugees.
