About the Jirani Project
Dedicated to the education and support of
vulnerable kenyan Children
The Jirani Project is a grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated to the education and support of vulnerable Kenyan children.
Material & Social support
We place children with extended family and provide each child with the support needed for their shelter, school tuition, clothing, and basic medical care. We also support the foster family materially and socially.
*NEW* offline digital library
The Jirani Project has launched an exciting new collaborative project with Engineering students at Arizona State University – an offline digital library in our new office in Lumakanda, Western Kenya!
Undergraduate students in the Engineering Projects in Community Services (EPICS) worked for the past couple of years to design a durable, offline device to store many volumes for use by our Jirani children and the larger community. The library was officially launched in May 2025 with Jirani Project supporters and students who created the device present, which has been in much demand by our sponsored children and the larger community.
Through funding from Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Madison, Wisconsin, via their Giftaway program, we were able to purchase 14 new tablets that Mark Okello and friends of JP brought to Kenya for use in the library. Photos show children using the digital library. Omit “in its early weeks”
Who We Serve
We focus on serving children in difficulty circumstances in rural, Western Kenya – children who are orphaned, abandoned, or likely to be unhoused.
